Comfortable?
Thursday, February 28, 2008 @ 10:20 am by Josh Burcham
I’ve heard people say before, “God just wants me to be comfortable.” My response is, “God couldn’t give a RIP about your comfort–He simply wants you to be obedient… and at times that means facing things head on that scare you and completely take you out of your comfort zone.”
I’ve been talking with a couple of people of the last couple of months about being comfortable. Comfortable with their jobs, their family, their lifestyle, their friends, their church and their faith.
Perry hit it out of the park with that quote! God doesn’t care about you being comfortable. I’ve really started to realize that in my own life. I work at Starbucks. The environment it great and fun. The pay is a little lacking, but we do get great benefits. I miss being able to sleep till 9 and having a job with normal working hours. It’s been a humbling experience to serve people at Starbucks. It’s been humbling to talk with pastors and church staff at Starbucks. I’ve caught myself holding back the fact that I’m a church planting; in fear of their view of me.
A couple opportunities have come up for me to have a “real” job, but I know God wants me at Starbucks even if I don’t like it. “God doesn’t give a RIP if I’m comfortable…he cares that I’m obedient.”
God can’t use you; if you aren’t willing to get uncomfortable. And be careful, because the second you decide to be uncomfortable you will never be able to be comfortable again! When you do get uncomfortable…that’s when God gives you God size dreams.
STOP! Stop lying to yourself right now! You are comfortable. Stop giving yourself stupid examples of how you aren’t comfortable. Having to tithe this week even though you don’t have the money…isn’t being uncomfortable. Having to work with someone that gets under your skin…isn’t being uncomfortable. Having to raise your children…isn’t being uncomfortable. Me working at Starbucks…isn’t me being uncomfortable.
We live in a society where the goal for our lives is to be comfortable! Well, I think I’m going to go against the normal and get uncomfortable and have God us me!

Daily Question

If you suddenly woke up in an emergency room, what would be the worse thing to hear a doctor say?
“We had to cut it off.”
No matter what they “had” to cut off; it will be something I want to stay attached. Okay…maybe my pinky finger would be okay.
What wouldn’t you want to hear?

Moving Up the Leader Board

Have you ever Googled yourself? I know only losers do this. Well, when I Google my name it is usually is linked to some dude that is heavily involved with Transformers and anything about me is nowhere to be found. Until today. Well, at least when I Google my name today; to see if my blog comes up. And this is what I found:

SEVEN!! My blog was number seven on the list and two of them shouldn’t count. Crazy huh?

Daily Question

I think I have a mild case of OCD and it’s only about certain things. I know, I have issues. Things just have to be straight for me, but not so much clean. The weird thing is, it is only sometimes. Example sitting at lunch with someone I’ll straighten up the table and make everything in line with everything else. All my designs have to be perfect and symmetric (is that how you spell that? it looks funny). I guess it is a gift and a cruse.
Other quirks? I only wear one type of underwear and it took me a long time to find them. When I decided on going one way with something it’s hard for me to change directions in mid-stream, but I am working on it. I always back up out of a parking spot and then buckle or try to buckle when I’m backing up. I always have something with me to drink, whether it’s Smart Water (great birthday present a case of smart water from Costco or Sams; wink wink), Starbucks or QT. I don’t like falling behind on my Google Blog Reader; I feel like I’m out of the loop.

My Night through the Eyes of my iPhone
Saturday, February 23, 2008 @ 12:10 pm by Josh Burcham
Had tickets to the Avs game last night and I though I would blog about it through pictures.
It was raining on our way down to Jobing.com Arena. There was a sign over the freeway that read “Hockey Traffic.” How sweet is that? We’re in Phoenix, AZ.
Finally got to the rink and parked in the “special” season ticket holders parking and entered into a special entrance. It would be cool to have season tickets, but I wouldn’t ever be able to make it to all the games.
View from our seats. The picture doesn’t do it justice. We were only 13 rows up. Closest I’ve ever sat.
Warm-Ups. Stastny is back. Still no Sakic, but he is practicing with the team.
The game is about to begin and I have missed hockey.
Sorry, once the game started I forgot about the whole taking pictures thing. Avs tied it up towards the end of the first making it 1 – 1. End of the second Avs were in the lead 2 – 1. With 2.8 seconds left in the game the Coyotes score to tie it at 2. After 5 minute overtime and 12, yes I said 12, rounds of shootouts the Avs came out victorious!
