I Was Bored

I have an issue of having to look at the same thing over and over again and decided to change things up on the blog. First of my own sites that I created from a completely blank canvas, it was a little rocky at first with some new features, but turn out well.

Moving the blog from a personal site to a site to display my portfolio, creating some more additional income for a future project, that we can talk about more in a couple of months. Don’t worry, my blog still lives here and I’ll still post as I always have. Know of any churches that need a website re-design, branding or print project. I don’t work exclusively with churches, but my heart is there to help at a low price to better the Church to help people meet Jesus. Shoot me an email, if you have any leads. If you’re a church and want to talk about your needs, submit your info for a quote.

The site is still in progress, since I’m never happy with status quo. Enjoy the new features and watch for up coming changes and announcements. It’s been a long time since my last real post, so help get the word out and let them new about the new web address: www.joshburcham.com.

New Site, New Features

I like change. I like to tweak things for the sake of change and my blog is not an exception. The best part of this blog theme is took me about a day and a half; the last design took me a week. I’m starting to get the hang of this WordPress thing. Might notice a few new features on the blog:

Picture 4 Popular Posts:

The popular posts section of the blog is where you’ll find the top four posts and series with the most traffic. Click away and read some of the back posts and remember what made this blog famous. I’m just kidding, this blog isn’t famous. Well, not famous enough to earn me any money.

Picture 3 Reading List:

These are the must reads for the readers of JoshBurcham.com. As I’ve journey down the road of becoming a true Christ-follower, loving God and loving people I’ve ran across some books that God used to grow me. Outside of scripture of course. These are those books. Get your hands on them and read away.

Menu Bar:
Not a lot of change of the bar itself, but some change on what you’ll find behind the links. Creative still needs some work. Anyone know a creative way of displaying a portfolio? Click through all the links and don’t forget to check out Three Guys and a Bible Podcast.

I'm Watching

Some people watch sports, keep up on celebrity gossip or talk politics. I watch churches. Their ministry and staff structure. Their leaders leadership styles. Their ministries models. I read their blogs, watch their services, visit their churches and read their pastors books. Leaders are learners and we can gain a lot of knowledge from those in the trenches.

It’s weird, the first thing I check on churches websites is their staff and ministry pages. It gives you a great overview of what they value as a church. I would visit their vision and mission pages, but most of the time the church doesn’t follow what they have written. We usually see their vision within their weekly service(s).

Check out the current list of churches I’m watching.

I Missed You

It’s been a little over a month since my last postings and I’ve missed you blog readers. Type out my previous post I realized I missed writing as well. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a strong writer, but I still enjoy it. It helps my brain feel like it is doing something. My goal is to get back to a post a day. Don’t quote me on that, but I’ll be pretty close.

On  an unrelated note: I’m heading out today for a guys camping trip and I’m stoked. Our goal for the trip is to break routine and to just get away. To focus back on our Creator and experience a ‘thin place.’ Check back after the weekend to see the recorded experience.

Favorite Headers Thus Far

This blog as been an outlet for my creative side: writing, photoshop, web design, etc. Allowing myself in a small way to keep up on my Photoshop skills (haven’t seen InDesign in a couple of months) and creativity. Not that these are that impressive, they aren’t. But it’s always interesting to look back on the past. These are the headers that seem to really pop (in no particular order):

If you don’t read Seth Godin’s blog, you need to. The knowledge that man is filled with is impressive. Here is a snippet from a recent post, You’re Boring:

You’re boring

Sorry, someone had to say it.

Your products are predictable. Your insights are recycled. You don’t bring surprise with you when you enter a room.

That’s why people are ignoring you.

It Is Born

picture-1The new blog theme has been born. Started with Human3rror‘s I Love Content theme and I edited a fair amount. I’m still pretty new to this whole CSS and php, for that matter html as well, there are probably some broken things around. If you find them, let me know.

Overall, I’m actually happy with this one. The last theme just didn’t seem like it was me and this one feels much closer.
